Die-casting zinc ingots are zinc alloy ingots used for die casting. They are zinc-based with added elements such as aluminum, copper, and magnesium. They offer a combination of advantages, including a low melting point, good fluidity, high dimensional accuracy, a smooth surface finish, and moderate cost, making them one of the most widely used die-casting materials globally.
I. Core Composition and Main Grades
Standards: GB/T 8738-2014 (Zinc Alloy Ingots for Casting), GB/T 13818-2024 (Zinc Alloys for Die Casting); internationally, the Zamak (3/5/7) and ZA (8/12/27) series are commonly used.
Zamak 3 (Zinc Alloy No. 3, Most Commonly Used)
Composition: Al 3.8%–4.3%, Cu ≤0.03%, Mg 0.035%–0.06%, Zn balance; impurities Pb/Cd ≤0.003%, Sn ≤0.001%.
Characteristics: Excellent flowability, dimensional stability, and ease of electroplating; well-balanced overall performance; accounts for over 70% of global consumption.
Applications: Toys, jewelry, zipper pulls, small hardware, and electronic enclosures.
Zamak 5 (Zinc Alloy No. 5, High Strength)
Composition: Al 3.8%–4.3%, Cu 0.7%–1.1%, Mg 0.035%–0.06%, Zn balance.
Characteristics: Higher strength and hardness than No. 3, good wear resistance, slightly reduced dimensional stability.
Applications: Automotive door locks, fuel tank caps, electromechanical parts, tool housings, high-end hardware.
Zamak 7 (Zinc Alloy No. 7, High Surface Quality)
Composition: Al 3.8%–4.3%, Cu ≤0.03%, Mg 0.02%–0.04%, trace Ni, high purity.
Characteristics: Good ductility, extremely high surface finish, suitable for precision decorative parts.
Applications: Jewelry, watch cases, high-end decorative parts, optical components.
