EHONG STEEL –ROUND BAR

Round bar refers to solid, long steel bars with a circular cross-section. Its specifications are expressed in terms of diameter, measured in millimeters (mm); for example, “50 mm” refers to a round bar with a diameter of 50 millimeters.

 

Classification by Manufacturing Process

Round bars are classified into three types: hot-rolled, forged, and cold-drawn. Hot-rolled round bars are available in sizes ranging from 5.5 to 250 millimeters. Among these, small round bars measuring 5.5–25 mm are mostly supplied in bundles of straight bars and are commonly used as reinforcing bars, bolts, and various mechanical parts; round bars larger than 25 mm are primarily used in the manufacture of mechanical parts and billets for seamless steel pipes.
Round bars are classified by manufacturing process into: hot-rolled round bars, forged round bars, and cold-drawn round bars.

Based on carbon content, they are classified as low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, and high-carbon steel; based on application, they are classified as carbon structural steel and carbon tool steel.

Differences Between Round Bars and Other Reinforcing Bars:

  1. The surface profiles differ. Round bars have a smooth, round surface without grooves or ribs, whereas other reinforcing bars feature grooved or ribbed surfaces. As a result, round bars have lower bond strength with concrete, while other reinforcing bars have higher bond strength with concrete.

  2. The chemical compositions differ. Round bars (Grade 1 steel) are made of ordinary low-carbon steel, while other reinforcing bars are mostly made of alloy steel.
  3. Strength: Round bars have lower strength, while other reinforcing bars have higher strength. That is, for round bars and other reinforcing bars of the same diameter, round bars can withstand less tensile force than other reinforcing bars. However, round bars have greater ductility than other reinforcing bars; that is, round bars undergo greater deformation before breaking, whereas other reinforcing bars undergo much less deformation before breaking.
