Galvanized pipes and hollow galvanized components can be coated with a layer of clear varnish after galvanization. Products such as wire, sheets, and mesh can be waxed and oiled. For hot-dip galvanized structural components, chromium-free passivation treatment can be performed immediately after water cooling. If the galvanized parts can be transported and installed quickly, no post-treatment is required. In fact, whether surface treatment is needed for hot-dip galvanizing primarily depends on the shape of the parts and potential storage conditions. If the galvanized surface is to be painted within six months, an appropriate post-treatment process must be selected to avoid affecting the adhesion between the zinc layer and the paint.
2. Galvanized components should be stored in a dry, well-ventilated environment with proper coverage.
If steel pipes must be stored outdoors, the components should be elevated off the ground and separated by narrow spacers to allow free airflow over all surfaces. Components should be tilted to facilitate drainage. They should not be stored on damp soil or decaying vegetation.
3. Covered galvanized parts should not be placed in areas where they may be exposed to rain, fog, condensation, or snowmelt.
When galvanized steel is transported by sea, it should not be shipped as deck cargo or placed in the ship's hold, where it may come into contact with bilge water. Under electrochemical corrosion conditions, seawater may exacerbate white rust corrosion. In maritime environments, particularly in tropical oceans with high humidity, providing a dry environment and good ventilation facilities is particularly important.
